# Managing websites

> Create new websites, switch between them in the dashboard, set per-site capture flags, and limit identification to specific URLs with page rules.

Each website in Squid ID is its own setup: a separate SDK, install snippet, connectors, notifications, and visitor list. You create websites, switch between them, and configure what each one captures. The first website is included; each additional one is a paid slot.

## If you're coming from RB2B

RB2B

Squid ID

Multiple domains

Add domains / scripts

Create websites, each with its own SDK

Per-site config

Shared settings

Separate connectors, notifications, and visitors per site

Page targeting

Limited

Inclusion or exclusion page rules

Why this matters. Settings do not leak between sites. A Slack route or filter on one website has no effect on another, so you can run different marketing sites independently from one account.

## Create a website

Only an Owner can create websites.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the website switcher">
    Click the website name at the top of the dashboard, then Add website.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name it and add URLs">
    Enter a website name and every URL the site runs under. A site is usually reachable at more than one hostname, for example
example.com
and
[www.example.com](http://www.example.com)
, and you may also run subdomains like
app.example.com
or
docs.example.com
. Click Add another URL and list each hostname you want to identify visitors on. URLs are normalized to their origin.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create it, then follow the guided install">
    Click Create website. Squid ID opens a guided install step that detects your platform (Framer, WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Squarespace, Google Tag Manager, and more), shows the exact steps for it with a link to the full guide, gives you the snippet to copy, and lets you click Verify install to confirm it is live before you head to the dashboard.
  </Step>
</Steps>

See [Install the snippet](/getting-started/install-snippet) and [Verify your install](/getting-started/verify).

<Info>The first website is included in your plan. Each additional website needs a paid website slot. If you hit the limit, the dashboard prompts you to add a slot. See [Plans and domains](/billing/plans-and-domains).</Info>

<Info>On WordPress you can skip the snippet entirely and use the one-click plugin instead, which installs and connects the site for you. See [WordPress](/getting-started/install/wordpress).</Info>

## Edit a website

Open Settings → Website to change a site's details. Pick the site in the switcher first so the page is scoped to it.

* Website name. The friendly label shown in connectors, reports, and the switcher. Edit it and click Save.
* Website URLs. Add or remove the hostnames the snippet runs on. Click Add URL for another, or the remove icon to drop one, then Save. The install snippet itself does not change, it is keyed to the website, so you never need to re-paste it when you change URLs.

Owners and Admins can edit. Viewers can see the settings but not change them.

<Info>Changing the URL list updates where the SDK is allowed to connect. If you add a hostname, place the snippet on those pages too. If you remove one, the snippet stops connecting there.</Info>

## Delete a website

Only the Owner can delete a website. From Settings → Websites click the delete icon on the site (or open Settings → Website and click Delete website), then confirm.

<Warning>Deleting a website is permanent and cannot be undone. Squid ID stops identifying its visitors, its install snippet and any WordPress plugin connection stop working, and the site's per-site settings (filters, ICPs, page rules, and exclusions) are removed.</Warning>

<Info>Deleting a website does not change your billing. If it was a paid additional website and you no longer need the slot, lower your website count under Settings → Billing. The paid website stays active until the end of your current billing month, then drops (there's no mid-month proration). Until you lower the count, the slot stays on your plan and you can reuse it for another site.</Info>

## Domains and subdomains

The snippet only identifies visitors on the exact hostnames you list here. A few things follow from that:

* www and non-www are different hostnames.
example.com
and
[www.example.com](http://www.example.com)
are not the same to a browser, so if your site answers on both, add both.
* Subdomains are separate too. To identify visitors on
app.example.com
,
docs.example.com
, or
blog.example.com
, add each one to the list, then place the snippet on those pages.
* Pages and routes within a hostname are automatic. Once a hostname is registered, the snippet works on every path under it. To narrow which pages identify, use [page rules](#page-rules) rather than the domain list.

<Warning>Squid ID locks each website's SDK to the exact hostnames you registered, so the snippet only runs where you authorized it and cannot be lifted onto another domain. The trade-off is that a hostname has to match what you entered. A mismatch (for example you registered
example.com
but installed on
[www.example.com](http://www.example.com)
) is the most common reason a freshly installed snippet does not connect. See [Troubleshooting](/troubleshooting).</Warning>

## The website switcher

The switcher at the top of the dashboard lists your sites under My websites (sites you own) and Invited (sites shared with you). Each row shows the site name and primary URL. Selecting a site scopes the whole dashboard, settings, and visitor list to that site. At the bottom are Add website and Manage websites, which opens the Websites page below.

## Manage your websites

Settings → Websites (also reachable from Manage websites in the switcher) lists every website on your account in one place, each with a live status: Active · receiving traffic, Active · awaiting first visit, or Paused. From here you can:

* Pause or resume a website. The toggle turns a site's tracking off without deleting anything. While a website is paused, Squid ID stops identifying and de-anonymizing its visitors (the events feed is dropped), so it generates no matches and no charges. Flip it back on to resume. The snippet, connectors, and settings are all preserved.
* Manage opens that website's settings.
* Delete removes the website (owner only); see below.
* Add website creates another site with the same flow as the switcher, then takes you to the guided install step.

<Info>Pausing is the clean way to stop a site temporarily (a seasonal campaign, a staging site) without losing its configuration or re-installing the snippet later. Deleting is permanent.</Info>

## Capture flags

Capture flags control which signals the SDK records for a site. They live under Settings → Add-ons (capture controls) and on the website settings. Defaults match a standard install, including handshake, performance, clicks, form submits, scroll, disconnect, and visitor ID. Some signals such as network and behavioral are off by default. Owners and Admins can change these; Viewers cannot.

## Page rules

By default Squid ID identifies visitors on every page. To narrow that, set a page inclusion or exclusion list under Settings → Restrictions. See [Restrictions](/finding-visitors/restrictions#page-rules) for the full detail.

## Skipping and hiding visitors

Two separate controls decide who reaches your dashboard and your bill:

* To stop identifying and paying for a segment (consumer B2C visitors, bots, or specific pages), use [Restrictions](/finding-visitors/restrictions).
* To hide visitors from your dashboard without changing billing (your own team, specific domains), use [Filters](/finding-visitors/filters).
