# Email digest

> Send your team a scheduled email summary of identified Squid ID visitors on a daily, weekly, or monthly cadence, filtered by ICP or website.

The email digest is a scheduled summary of the visitors Squid ID identified, sent to the people you add. Each recipient picks their own cadence: daily, weekly, or monthly. The digest is for recap and review. For visitors to act on in real time, use [Slack](/routing/route-to-slack) or [Teams](/routing/teams).

## If you're coming from RB2B

If you currently use RB2B, here's how the digest compares:

<div className="compare">
  <table>
    <thead>
      <tr><th /><th>RB2B</th><th>Squid ID</th></tr>
    </thead>

    <tbody>
      <tr><td>Cadence</td><td>Daily recap</td><td>Daily, weekly, or monthly</td></tr>
      <tr><td>Per-recipient cadence</td><td>One schedule</td><td>Each recipient sets their own</td></tr>
      <tr><td>Recipients</td><td>Account-level list</td><td>Add any number of addresses</td></tr>
    </tbody>
  </table>
</div>

<p className="why"><strong>Why this matters.</strong> A single recap schedule sends everyone the same email at the same interval. Per-recipient cadence lets a rep get a daily list while a manager gets a weekly or monthly roll-up from the same source.</p>

## Before you start

<Info>You'll move faster if these are already in place.</Info>

* You're an **Owner** or **Admin** on the website. Viewers can see recipients but can't change them.
* The [snippet is installed and verified](/getting-started/install-snippet), so there are visitors to summarize.

## Add recipients

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Email notifications">
    Go to **Settings → Email notifications**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add an address">
    In the **Email digest** section, type an address and click **Add**. It appears as a row in the recipient table.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose each recipient's cadence">
    Each row has **Daily**, **Weekly**, and **Monthly** toggles. Turn on one or more for each recipient. A new recipient starts on Daily.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Let it save">
    Changes save automatically. The status line at the bottom shows **Saved** once the change is stored.
  </Step>
</Steps>

To stop sending to someone, remove their row or turn off all three cadences. The digest is active for an address only while at least one cadence is on.

## What's in the digest

The digest summarizes the visitors Squid ID identified for the website over the period. To narrow who shows up across the product, set up [ICP filtering](/finding-visitors/icp-filtering). To browse identified visitors directly, see [identified visitors](/finding-visitors/identified-visitors).

Every person appears once per digest, however many times they visited, with their visit count and when they were last seen.

## Report content

Three switches under **Settings → Email notifications → Report content** change what goes into the digest. They apply to every cadence and every recipient on the website, so a change here affects the daily, weekly, and monthly emails together.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Only companies">
    Off by default. When on, the digest includes only people with a company attached, so consumer and personal visitors are left out. Use it when your team only works business accounts and a mixed list wastes their time.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Include returning">
    Off by default, which means the digest lists only people seen for the **first time** in that period. Turn it on to include everyone active in the period, whether they're new or coming back. Leaving it off keeps the digest to genuinely new names. Turning it on is closer to a full activity report.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Skip empty reports">
    Off by default. When on, no email is sent for a period where nobody was identified, instead of an email listing nobody.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Info>
  The three settings stack, and the order matters for **Skip empty reports**. Empty means nobody was left after the other two filters ran, not that the website had no traffic. So with **Include returning** off, a website can have a busy day of returning visitors, no first-time people, and still count as empty. That is usually what you want, but it is worth knowing before you turn both on together.
</Info>

Changes save on the spot and apply to the next digest. They do not change the visitors you see in the dashboard, only what the emails contain.

## Multiple websites

Recipients are set per website. If your account owns more than one website, switch the active site and add recipients for each one.
